Any updates on showing the OTP in the email subject for passwordless auth?

I know you reached out in the past on showing the OTP code in the email subject here in Discord.

Thanks for reaching out again.

We have heard this request from others.
The trade-off at the moment is security vs convenience.

  • Security concerns: the code would be visible from your lock screen
  • Convenience: you have outlined the convenience above

We must prioritise security, but we've considered making it an optional configuration in Kinde admin to include the code in the subject line. This option would be off by default, allowing founders to opt in, offering a reasonable compromise. Although it's not a major change, we must consider translations and internationalization, as all our subject lines are currently translated. We'd need a format that works universally without requiring complete retranslation.
Long story short, this feature is on our minds and there are discussions internally on how to provide this as a valuable feature for those who want to opt-in.

But unfortunately, I still cannot provide any concrete timelines on this.

Just wanted to mention that it would be valuable for us as well.

I completely understand the security consideration and agree with the direction you're going with by making it option and leaving it to the founder to decide.

I don't mean to throw a spanner in the works here, but could you potentially make it optional at a user level? Similar to the options we have now with MFA?

In any case, I'm glad it's on the roadmap and I believe it will be a big plus for users.
Funny enough, I actually received one from Slack when trying to login to kinde community on my phone and it had the code in the subject, so I thought I'd share πŸ˜…

This feature is on our radar and I will let you know when I have any updates on this feature. But again, I can't share any timelines on this feature for now.
