When using SSO providers, why does the user need to approve to create a new account?

My partner today said he thinks people don't like it when they SSO such as Google / Microsoft, that they are then asked to create a new account on Kinde.

The user shouldn't know that there's "his" account in the background, just that he can sign in using the SSO option.

If I compare it to clerk, there I can just sign in without being asked to "create a new account", and I myself also think that it's a better UX

Hey @dachsteinhustler,
Are you referring to SSO with a social connection or an enterprise connection?
SSO with a social connection such as Google
Gotcha. I'll discuss this with my team and get back to you.
Hey @dachsteinhustler,
Thanks again for reaching out about this experience.

I totally agree with you that there should be an experience where users are authenticated with a social provider (regardless if their account previously existed or not).

I have noted your name down against this feature request in our internal feature request table.

As a workaround for now, you could consider creating a single page for sign-up and sign-in, i.e. a page where:
  • If the user doesn't have an account, an account is created silently in the background, and they let in (silent sign-up)
  • If the user does have an account, they are let in
You can achieve this by reviewing the following guide: https://docs.kinde.com/authenticate/custom-configurations/authentication-experience/#create-a-unified-sign-up--registration-experience-seamless-sign-up

Let me know if you have any questions on this.
